['wəːlpuːl; englisch, eigentlich »(Wasser)strudel«] der, -s/-s, Bassin, in dem vorgeheiztes Wasser (40 ºC) bodennah angesaugt und unter hohem Druck mit Luftzusatz als Sprudelwasser etwa 30 cm unterhalb des Beckenrandes oder des Wasserspiegels mit Massageeffekt zurückgepumpt wird. Sorgfältige Wasserpflege (wöchentliche Wassererneuerung; Gehalt an freiem Chlor 1-1,5 mg/l, pH-Wert 7,2-7,8) ist erforderlich, um Haut- und Urogenitalinfektionen (durch Bakterien, Pilze), besonders aber die durch Wasserdampf vermehrt übertragbare Infektion (Gefahr der Lungenentzündung) mit dem Pseudomonas-aeruginosa-Bakterium (Pseudomonas) zu vermeiden.
